I was born in 1966 at an Air Force base in Forth Worth,
TX. Mom tells me the hospital is now a women's penitentiary.
(Maybe it's true... you can't go home again.) I grew up mostly in the East Bay, about 20 miles east of San Francisco. My college years (aka "The Wonder Years") were spent at UC Santa Cruz, where I got my degree in physics. I had my share of fun outside of class with "toys" from the physics lab. <g> It was in Santa Cruz that I developed my passion for the ocean. After college, I ended up doing tech support for Borland International, based close to Santa Cruz. Thrown to the wolves (i.e., "customers"), I learned quickly, and within a few years moved into Borland's R&D department. With the economic downturn of the early 90's, Borland laid me off. Luckily, a really cool company in Nashua NH took a chance on me. That company was NuMega, and I played a big part in helping NuMega grow from 7 people to 250 before they were acquired. Around the same time as I joined NuMega, I started writing technical articles on Windows programming. That writing eventually became a second career for me. For awhile, I was an international SuperNerd. Luckily, I'm back to just one job now. With the exception of one year to pursue a startup, I've spent my entire time in New Hampshire working at NuMega or Compuware, which acquired NuMega in 1997. In March 2004, I moved to Issaquah, Washington to work for Microsoft on the Visual Studio team. So far, I'm loving it! I was married for 12 years, starting in 1989. Now I'm single, and enjoying all the new opportunities this has created for me. For example, here I am living the good life in Arizona with my cousin Heidi and brother-in-law Jeff. We were there imbibe margaritas and throw mom a 60th birthday party.
